Whiteway Winter Festival

Lake Windermere Whiteway Winter Festival

On Saturday, January 3rd at Kinsmen Beach in Invermere, the Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club (TCNSC) will host the inaugural Whiteway Winter Festival. This event will celebrate the announcement by Guinness World Records that the Lake Windermere Whiteway is now officially the longest skating trail in the world! At 30km in length, it surpasses the length of the previous record holder by nearly 20km. This multi-sport trail offers skiers, skaters, bikers, walkers and runners a recreational winter paradise.

Starting at 10:00am, kids ages 5 - 12 are invited to a participate in a ‘Try-it’ cross-country ski lesson with the Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club’s ‘Jackrabbit’ ski program. Following this, at 11:00am, participants will be able to enjoy a variety of winter fun, games, music and activities for all ages. There will be speed skating lessons and adult cross-country ski lessons, along with fat bike, Nordic skating, snowshoeing demos, and more!

At 12:00pm lunch and hot chocolate will be served at the Kinsmen Beach Building as a joint fundraiser for the Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club and the Lake Windermere Ambassadors.

At 1:00pm everyone is invited to take part in a community challenge to see how far they can self-propel themselves on the record breaking track. Olympic long distance speed skater Ingrid Liepa will be on hand to help cut the ribbon and lead off the challenge. Whiteway ribbons will be given out to all participants.

The event is free of charge but participants will be encouraged to either pay a $5 Whiteway day-use fee or purchase an Annual Whiteway Pass that is included with the Nordic Club’s membership. These are $50 for individuals and $120 for families, and can also be purchased online at

The Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club would like to thank all event sponsors and partners including Columbia Basin Trust, The Local View, The Station Pub Crazy Soles, The Inside Edge the Lake Windermere Ambassadors and the District of Invermere.
