Trail Updates

We are still waiting for the Whiteway and Lake Lillian to freeze enough to be able to set any kind of track on it, be it skating, walking or skiing.  A reminder to wait until the ice is safe to play on!  The club has an ice thickness policy that we follow to ensure the safety of everyone using it.  We will let everyone know through our social media channels when it’s ready.

Adult Programming

We still have lots of room in our adult programming!  We have three offerings this year:
Option 1 Starters : This group is for those who are new to cross country skiing. The goal of this group is to have you skiing with less effort and being able to safely navigate hills so you can experience more of the nordic trail systems we have here in our valley.
Option 2 Intermediate: This group is for those that have taken lessons, and are fairly confident on skis. You will learn more advanced techniques for navigating more challenging terrain and to increase speed. They may introduce skate skiing for those interested.
Option 3 Loppet Ready Lite: This group is for those who are keen on really racing those loppets. This is a group of fast skiers, looking for race specific techniques and drills to hone the skills

The club loppet registration is open!

the loppet committee is also looking for volunteers for that weekend to help out with the loppet. If you are interested in helping out, check the volunteer page and sign up for a task!

Youth Programming

The youth programming had participated in the Teck Regional Snow camp at Panorama the weekend of November 24-26. Young skiers from around the Kootneys came to train and learn on snow from a selection of coaches.

Now that there is snow (YA!), the youth programming has started with the first session up at Panorama Dec. 16th Jack Rabbit level and up. It’s great to be able to finally get on snow! Bunnies will start January 6th at Panorama.

The youth program is still needing a coach to help out on the Saturday morning to help with the younger kids (5-6 year olds). So if you have some time and some basic ski skills email the youth program coordinator youthprograms@tobycreeknordic.ca

Cross Country Ski Instructor course

CANSI is the national association for the training and certification of cross country ski instructors in Canada. Upon successful completion of a Level1 course, you become a member of CANSI and that give you access to higher levels of certification, refreshers, skill development to help you grow and develop your skiing and teaching skills. The course is designed to develop the skills to either teach professionally to beginner skiers or even just to help friends and family on the trail.

Panorama Nordic is hosting a Level 1 Course Feb. 2-4th, 2024 for those interested in teaching beginning cross country skiers.
